 Introduction to Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics

 南京航空航天大学创建于1952年10月，是新中国创办的第一批航空高等院校之一。1978年被国务院确定为全国重点大学；1981年经国务院批准成为全国首批具有博士学位授予权的高校；1996年进入国家“211工程”建设；2011年，成为“985工程优势学科创新平台”重点建设高校；2017年，进入国家“双一流”建设序列，现有航空宇航科学与技术、力学、控制科学与工程三个学科入选“一流学科”建设名单。2012年12月、2021年4月，工业和信息化部、中国民航局先后签署协议共建南京航空航天大学。2018年12月，工业和信息化部、教育部、江苏省共建南京航空航天大学。

 Founded in October 1952, NanjingUniversity of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) is one of the first aviation colleges and universities established by the PRC, and was identified as a national leading university by the State Council in 1978; approved by the State Council as one of the first universities with the right to confer doctoral degrees in 1981; entered the national "Project 211" in 1996. In 2011, NUAA became a leading university in the "985Project Innovation Platform"; in 2017, NUAA entered the national "Double First Class University Plan" construction sequence, and its three disciplines of aerospace science and technology, mechanics and control science and engineering were chosen for the "First-class Disciplines" construction list. In December 2012 and April 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Civil Aviation Administration of China signed an agreement to jointly build NUAA, and in December 2018, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province jointly built NUAA.

 在70年的办学历程中，南航人秉承“航空报国”的办学传统，遵循“团结、俭朴、唯实、创新”的优良校风，践行“智周万物，道济天下”的校训，栉风沐雨，砥砺奋进，不断推动学校跨越发展。目前，学校已发展成为一所以工为主，理工结合，工、理、经、管、文等多学科协调发展，具有航空航天民航特色的高水平研究型大学。学校现设有18个学院，本科专业62个、硕士一级学科授权点31个、博士一级学科授权点17个、博士后流动站17个。现有学生35127人，其中本科生19044人，研究生15262人，学位留学生821人。

 In its 70 years of operation,following the tradition of "aviation for the nation", and the spirit of "unity, frugality, truthfulness, and innovation", and practicing the school’s motto of "Push the frontiers of knowledge on all fronts, make the world we live in a better place",NUAA’s faculty and students have continued to promote the school’s development in leaps and bounds by overcoming difficulties and forging ahead. NUAA is now a research university concentrating on engineering, combining science and technology disciplines, and coordinating the development of multiple disciplines including engineering, science, economics, management, and liberal arts, with distinctive features in aviation, aerospace, and civil aviation. NUAA now has 18 departments, 62 undergraduate majors, 31 master's degree programs, 17 doctoral degree programs, and 17 postdoctoral stations. There are 35127 students, including 19044 undergraduates, 15262 graduate students, and 821 international students pursuing degrees.

 学校现启用明故宫、将军路、天目湖三个校区，占地面积3046亩，建筑面积189.3万平方米。学校图书馆收藏295万余件印刷型文献、156个中外文数据库，1260万余册各类电子型及数字型文献信息资源。现有专任教师2199人，高级职称1590人，博士生导师641人，院士、外籍院士及“钱伟长讲座教授”院士27人，其他国家级高层次人才89人次，国家级青年人才108人次。

 The university now has three campuses, namely, the Ming Palace, Jiangjun Road and Tianmuhu Lake, covering an area of 3046 mu and a building area of 1.893 million square meters. The university library holds more than 2.95 million pieces of printed documents, 156 databases in Chinese and foreign languages, and more than 12.6 million volumes of electronic and digital resources. There are 2199 full-time faculty members, 1590 with senior titles, 641 doctoral supervisors, 27 academicians, foreign academicians and Qian Weichang Colloquium Professors, 89 talents at national level and 108 young talents at national level.

 学校已成为高层次人才培养的重要基地。建校以来，学校已为国家培养了17万余名各类高级专门人才，校友中涌现出了24位两院院士，数十位省部级党政领导干部和将军，以及一大批著名的科技专家和管理专家。学校致力于培养具有责任意识、创新精神、国际视野、人文情怀的社会栋梁和工程英才，不断推进教育教学改革，逐步建立起具有南航特色的创新人才培养体系，取得了一批高水平教学成果。

 The university has become an important base for the training of high-level talents. Since its establishment, NUAA has trained more than 170000 high-level professionals for China. Among its alumni, there are 24 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, dozens of provincial and ministerial-level party and government leaders and generals, as well as a large number of famous science and technology experts and management experts. The university is committed to cultivating social pillars and engineering elites with a sense of responsibility, innovation, international perspective, as well as humanistic feelings,continuously promoting education and teaching reform, gradually establishing an innovative talent training system with NUAA characteristics, and achieving a number of high-level teaching achievements.

 学校科学研究能力持续增强。建校以来，学校获部省级以上科技成果奖1718项，其中国家奖82项，建有机械结构力学及控制国家重点实验室等6个国家级科研平台、81个部省级科研平台，为共和国贡献了若干个第一，包括我国第一架高原无人驾驶机、第一架无人驾驶直升机、第一架微型飞行器等，自主研制的“天巡一号”微小卫星成功发射。在基础研究领域，学校取得了“直升机广义涡流理论”“振动控制系统的非线性动力学理论”“飞机制造协调准确度与容差分配理论”等一批在国内外具有重要影响力的理论成果。在国民经济领域，学校聚焦国家重大战略部署，积极推进产学研合作，促进科技成果转化，构建了“国际创新港+校地研究院+联合实验室+技术转移机构”成果转化模式，为经济社会发展提供了有力支撑。

 The scientific research capability of the university has been continuously enhanced. Since its establishment, NUAA has won 1718 scientific and technological achievements, including 82 national awards, and has built 6 national-level and 81 provincial-level research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Structures. NUAA has contributed several "Firsts" to the PRC, including China's first highland unmanned aircraft, the first unmanned helicopter, ans the first micro air vehicle. NUAA has also successfully launched "Sky Patrol No. 1", a self-developed micro-satellite. In the field of fundamental research, NUAA has achieved a number of important achievements both domestic and international, such as "generalized vortex theory for helicopters", "nonlinear dynamics theory for vibration control systems", and "coordinated accuracy and tolerance distribution theory for aircraft manufacturing". In the field of national economy, NUAA focuses on the major strategic deployment of the country, actively promotes the cooperation between industry, university and research, promotes the conversion of scientific and technological achievements, and builds the conversion model of "International Innovation Harbor + University Research Institute + Joint Laboratory + Technology Transfer Institution", which provides strong support for economic and social development.

 学校大力实施开放办学战略，开展广泛国际交流与合作，已与国外187所知名高校、研究机构建立了合作关系，签署协议255份，其中与英国布里斯托大学、英国克兰菲尔德大学、莫斯科航空学院等16所高校签署战略合作伙伴协议。学校积极参与学术联盟建设，牵头成立“空中丝路”联盟、国际直升机教育联盟，并积极融入“一带一路航天创新联盟”、“中俄交通大学联盟”等。在合作办学方面，学校现有教育部中外合作办学项目、创新型人才培养项目等15个，与法国南特理工大学成立了校级合作办学机构，国际化办学规模不断扩大，人才联合培养质量不断提高。学校以融合、创新、发展、共赢的国际合作理念，形成了“服务航空航天民航、服务江苏，面向全国、面向世界”的开放型办学新格局，在人才培养、科学研究、师资建设、学术交流各方面期待与世界一流大学的联通。

 NUAA vigorously implements the strategy of opening up the university and carries out extensive international exchanges and cooperation. It has established cooperation with 187 renowned universities and research institutions abroad and signed 255 agreements, including 16 strategic partnership agreements with 16 universities such as University of Bristol, Cranfield University and Moscow Aviation Institute. The university actively participates in the construction of academic alliances, leading the establishment of the "Air Silk Road" alliance and the Helicopter Association International, and actively integrates into the "Belt and Road Aerospace Innovation Alliance" and the "China-Russia Transportation University Alliance". In terms of cooperative education, NUAA has 15 international cooperative education programs and innovative talent training programs under the Ministry of Education, and has established a university-level cooperative education institution with École Centrale de Nantes in France, expanding the scale of international education and improving the quality of joint training of talents. With the international cooperation concept of integration, innovation, development and mutual benefit, NUAA has formed a new pattern of open education which "serves aerospace and civil aviation, serves Jiangsu province, aims at the whole country and the world", and looks forward to the interaction with world-class universities in talent training, scientific research, faculty training and academic exchange.
